Fec 4 - what a difference
Our Blog By NursingGig.Com
Had chemo number 5 on Thursday 2nd. What a difference from when I had Tax. Now I'm back on Fec, I feel so much happier. I'm not saying I won't have some side effects, but at least I know what they are an how to deal with them. Also, having made the decision NOT to have radiotherapy, that has made me feel more relaxed to. I confirmed it with the oncology staff yesterday, and the radiologist was a bit relieved that I had said no as she was quite concerned ab...

Fec 4, Day 3
Our Blog By NursingGig.Com
I am feeling great today. Swollen feet and ankles all gone, cough gone too. Must have been that awful Docetaxel. No bad side effects yet, which is good, because tomorrow we are supposed to be going to the Garden Centre with son and DIL. We were supposed to go the week I took ill and ended up neutropenic in hospital. Hope that's not a bad omen!
Filgastrim injections start tomorrow, I won't have it until we get home. Don't want any unneccessary aches and pa...

Advice please
Our Blog By NursingGig.Com
2 days ago I was diagnosed with grade 2 lobular which they tell me we have caught incredibly early, that it is treatable, and the prognosis good. Ultrasound shows no lymph enlargement which apparently is also good. My challenge is the sheer amount of panic my body is experiencing and the very negative thoughts I keep having. Massive waves of despair and glumness. Can anyone advise me how to regain control and stock panicking, shaking and feeling sick pleas...

Anti Cancer - A New Way Of Life
Our Blog By NursingGig.Com
I wanted to share something on this site which I never knew about. I was given a look at this book in the title by My Mum to read a couple of chapters. It is by Dr David Servan-Schreiber. I have only read a couple of pages and then looked at the part about mobile phones. Has anybody else read this book? You should read the "Ten Precautions for Mobile Phone Use" Very interesting. Certainly makes me think of how ofter I use my phone and how much changing I a...

Wouldn’t it be grand if food could prevent or cure cancer! Alas, this is not so - YET.
The right food can, however, lower the risk of developing the disease, aid in treatment and recovery – physically, mentally and emotionally. Many foods have cancer-fighting properties such as free radical neutralising antioxidants and we are just beginning to understand how phytochemical compounds protect cells from disease.
Cancer does not manifest overnig...

Dear allthosewhodon’tbelievethere’ssomethingnastyaboutDeath,
When, around 2½ yrs ago, I got my exciting news, I of course determined on doing lots of useful to my family things. But, included in my list was the rereading of a lot of books. And I’ve just got to the end of my rere(!)reading of Anthony Trollope’s wonderful example of fine...

Mushrooms
Mushrooms are a particularly good source of the B-vitamins, riboflavin, niacin and pantothenic acid as well as the minerals copper and selenium.
Some people just can’t get their heads around the texture of mushrooms. If you are one of those, try not to pass the little belters by! When added as a puree to sauces they don’t have to overpower other ingredients and all the goodness is still there.
Oily fish & flaxseed

As we approach Christmas life gets a little more hectic and if you are anything like me you will be racking your brains what presents or gifts to buy for people. This blog idea came from SusieQ one of our online cancer support specialists and that is, ’What to Buy a friend or relative if they have cancer’, and thought that a hamper was a perfect gift.
I thought it was a clever idea and have put together some foods that could make up a hamper t...

Bleak mid winter

December...everyone rushing around, putting up decorations and shopping..I dont mind everyone doing this as long as I am not expected to.  No tree up yet but I will do it for my girls sake, no presents either but I will get around to it I guess.
Seems very strange and quiet at home, had a lovely card from a close friend today who had enclosed a Starbucks card loaded with £5 ready to use, all in Doug's memory as he adored Starbucks and she wrote...

Tired all the time
Our Blog By NursingGig.Com
I am exhausted, dads funeral was last week and that was difficult to say the least. Drowning in paperwork that is being ignored so far and trying to cope with some level of work even though the doctor has signed me off sick for now. Yesterday would have been Dougs 53rd birthday and instead of being on holiday for his birthday I had to make do with putting his card under the olive tree I have planted in the garden and scattering some of his ashes under same...

Maureen left for the hospital at 08:00 and was in and out very quick. On the way home she decided to pick up I or 2 items and to go to Mail Boxes to supervise the wrapping and posting of a YV to Lucas and Emily.
Maureen got back home around 11am and as she...

Our Blog By NursingGig.Com
As promised last week I want to give you some information on the cookery/nutrition course that I attended a week ago. As I said in my last blog it was very inspiring and I was introduced to some new ingredients and privy to some very recent research on Turmeric that I want to share with you.
The course was run by Christine Bailey who as some of you know is a nutrition/cookery expert who has written many books, speaks nationally and appears on TV and radio...

Bleugh!!!
I know I spelt that properly because Charles Shultz used it a lot in his 'Peanuts' cartoons. I use the word, because although I am feeling generally well, I've had a lot of soreness and discomfort 'down below'!! It's day 12 of Fec 4 (chemo 5) and I was hoping this would have cleared up before now. It obviously has different ideas. There's only one week before my oncology appointment pre chemo 6, final one. So I hope they don't delay it. My...

Feeling better tonight. They have cured the MRSA in my sons feeding tube and he goes home tomorrow. He has been put on better pain control with patches and is feeling a lot better and not so low. He starts the new drug that is the alternative to chemo tomorrow and he starts radiotherapy on the 20th. Thank goodness, treatment at last!

Part 3 - Yin and Yang..
Our Blog By NursingGig.Com
So, I had my first appointment with my Oncologist yesterday who was going to fill me in on the exact details of my condition.
He was a big bear of a man with a round face and that did strangely help with the news he was about to deliver.
I definitely have a mesothelioma, and there is no cure. That's a bit rubbish (that's the Yin bit in case you missed it).

He suggested that there is a very slim chance that a team up in Manchester may be ab...

Since last writing my dad completed his third round of chemo and got scanned and the good news was that the tumour on his stomach had shrank and the doctor said it was quite small but the downside was that they had found some blood clots on his lungs so they said that t...

Day 19 of Treatment;

A much better night for Maureen almost slept through from 10pm until 06:15 this morning.
Maureen says she is feeling ok this morning especially as it's the weekend and that’s the third week over.
The new meds especially the patches "Butrans-10" and the co-codamol effervescent tablets are keeping the worst of the pain at bay. That makes Maureen much more comfortable.
