Job Summary:

Assist the Director of Nursing in accomplishing the Nursing department objectives.

Coordinates the activities of the Nursing Department on behalf of the Director of Nursing.

Manages the nursing service within the units or departments according to program policies and procedures and ensures the highest standard of care within available resources.

Instills the spirit of patient-focused teams and creates a motivated and challenging work environment.

Serves in the role of Director of Nursing on nursing standards and practices; nurse training and development; nursing staff credentials; staff recruitment; promotions; and managing the Nursing Services.

Assists in administrative cover for the hospital (inclusive of “on call” arrangements).

Acts as Senior Nursing representatives for the Director of Nursing on committees and working parties as required.

Assumes direct operational function for clinical involvement and decision making.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Monitors effectiveness of nursing care identifies deficiencies and makes recommendations to the Director of Nursing.

Acts as resource person for identifying Quality Improvement projects as appropriate within the frame work of the Quality Improvement methodology.

Studies and evaluates the level and quality of services when standards are being compromised and initiates the appropriate action with the department manager concerned.

Directs and participates in the nursing Educational and professional programs.

Participates with the hospital inspection team where attendance / effort is regarded as being detrimental to patient care and service standards.

Participates in decision making regarding nursing staff promotions transfer and disciplinary hearing concerning nursing practice incidents.

Prepares and issues detailed plans to forward agreed objectives as requested by the Director of Nursing.

Gathers information of actual progress as requested by the Nursing Director.

Improves the quality of Nursing by assisting the Clinical Nursing Managers in their specific areas when required.

Represents the Director of Nursing on committees meetings and others as required.

Responsible for individual professional growth and personal development.

Provides leadership in the implementation of MSD Standards in the Nursing department.

Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge skills and abilities.

Develops control system to ensure that the highest standard of nursing care is provided.

Anticipates prevents identifies and resolves problems.

Monitors overtime sick leave vacation planning “floating”; and maintains data.

Ensures all complaints are fully investigated and appropriate action is taken.

Reviews work patterns and operational policies; institute trials  as appropriate and recommends amendments.

Ensures optimal use of all resources; monitors supply orders and purchase requests.

Advises Director of Nursing of changes in clinical practice in any relevant specialty.

nsures staff are carrying out duties within their competence and that staff are formally authorized to undertake approved extended roles.

Ensures safe environment for patients and staff.

Educational Qualifications/Licensure


Graduate of an AccreditedSchoolofNursingwith Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree
Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration from an accredited University preferred.

Degree/Diploma in Management Studies from and Accredited University.

Current Registered Nurse Licensure
Must be registered and accredited with Saudi Commission for Health Specialties but this will be dealt with after appointment.

Required Skills and Experience :


Ten (10) years of nursing experience.

Six (6) years management experience at Senior Nursing Management Supervisory level

Specialized Knowledge:


Diversity in clinical experiences and education.

Effective communication and leadership skills.

BCLS & ACLS certified.
